Following my research of Odilon Redon, I felt inspired to draw the following portraits.
I love drawing faces as I believe that every face has a story to tell. Up to this point I have predominantly been using charcoal and pencils to produce portraits of people and pets.
In contrast to my usual method of drawing a face in a realistic way, I wanted to experiment by adding features that stemmed from my imagination and overall tried to evoke feelings of mystery and wonder.
In the top portrait, I tried to use similar colours to Redon's painting of 'Two trees', even though my shading is not as dark in values. I used mainly line shading and dots.
The reason I highlighted the eyes and mouth with an ink pen, was partly experimental but also because I wanted them to be more prominent in the picture and make the viewer look at them first.
In my second portrait I played with combining a few colours. I used lines, straight and squiggly to do the drawing and shading.
